We are a movie-watching family. Usually on Friday nights (some random Tuesdays or Thursdays too), we all pile on the sofas with popcorn and M&Ms and
argue over pick out a movie to watch all together. But lately, instead of the latest releases, I’ve been scrolling through our extensive options and choosing old school family movies from when I was growing up! Not only is it fun to relive the nostalgia of the 80’s and 90’s, but the kids LOVE them. And why wouldn’t they, they’re classics! They also love to see “how people lived” when there were no TV remotes (how did they change the channel? There was no NETFLIX?) and telephones were attached to the wall (they couldn’t take their phones with them??). Plus, instead of paying $5.99 for a new movie, a lot of the old ones are free!
Here are the ones we’ve watched that the kids have enjoyed. We’ve gone through alllllllllll the Disney and animated movies, so these are all a bit more mature. We stay away from anything even slightly scary (unless it’s a quick scene, then we just cover eyes), and obviously try to limit bad language (though some of these have a few curse words but we just acknowledge that we don’t use that language, and move on). I’d LOVE to know what movies from your childhood that your kids have enjoyed too, so please share your favorites!
Home Alone (and Home Alone 2)
Troop Beverly Hills (the girls were obsessed)
Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade
Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory
Honey, I Shrunk the Kids
Indian in the Cupboard (anyone else remember reading this book?)
And up next: Teen Witch!! Anyone else LOVE this movie as a kid? (I’m gonna be the most popular giiiiii-rrrrrrrrrllllllll! OMG I love that movie)
What old school movies have you watched with your kids that you all enjoyed??
