Ben’s 7th Birthday + Weekly Meal Plan

Hello everyone and happy Monday! Hope you had a wonderful weekend and are having a great start to your week! I can’t tell you how ridiculously busy we’ve been around here, and honestly, I don’t see it slowing down anytime soon. It is equal parts stressful and equal parts totally normal, haha, but I do try to clear the calendar and REST on the weekends when we can. ANYWAY- I’m back, if just for today, haha, to chat about my big boy’s seventh birthday this past week!

Ben’s birthday was Thursday and I am 100% in denial that my BABY is seven. Doesn’t seven just seem SO MUCH OLDER?? I was able to spend a bit of one on one time with him this week, and he is just, truly, the sweetest little boy in the world. I just have to brag a bit- he is polite and considerate, and Scott and I say all the time how smart he is, but not only is he just smart, he’s emotionally intelligent. He can sense how you’re feeling, and communicate with you appropriately. He knows what you need and communicates in that way. A lot of adults I know can’t even do that!! But he’s a master. We were talking about his birthday earlier last week and how I had waited to the last minute to plan anything. I was feeling really guilty, and told him that I was really sorry that I had kinda dropped the ball. He said, “mom, you’re such a good mom. I know you’re trying your best.” Heart. Shattered. He just makes me so proud to be his mom. And I was happy to celebrate his birthday last week.

We had our traditional cinnamon rolls with sprinkles for breakfast, and we did a little birthday present scavenger hunt before school! The only thing in the world that he wanted was a Nintendo Switch and we ordered one, but it hadn’t arrived yet for his birthday. So the scavenger hunt added in some fun since he only had a few small gifts to open. But he didn’t mind at all, knowing he would be getting that Switch (which, by the way, I’ve never felt so old trying to understand what it is exactly, and how it works, and that you can either buy actual games OR download them, but I think I get it now! Big thanks to my friend Julie, who I had to text multiple times to make sure I was getting the right thing, ha!).

At school, Ben wanted chocolate cupcakes with blue frosting, so that’s what we made and he shared with his friends at school. I took in Chick Fil A for lunch, and was able to eat with all three kids. After school, the birthday boy chose his birthday dinner, and we feasted on “Beef Tacos with hard shells, not soft tacos,” just as he requested. Then we sang to him one more time and ate homemade chocolate cake with chocolate frosting, again, just as he requested!

Since he got a pretty big gift in the Switch, we decided that we wouldn’t do a party, but he could pick one friend to go with us to Chucky Cheese for games and pizza. So on Saturday, we picked up his sweet little friend Tripp, and we headed to Chucky Cheese! The kids played their little hearts out on all the games, we ate pizza (fact: I LOVE Chucky Cheese pizza!! What is it about their pizza that is just so good?!), played in the little playspace, and then headed to Scoops in downtown Monroe for ice cream. It was such a beautiful day so we sat outside and enjoyed our ice cream before we took Tripp home. And since his Switch had finally arrived, Ben disappeared into his room with his new video games, and we haven’t seen him since, haha! I think my boy had a pretty good birthday, and I couldn’t have been happier to be celebrating with him. He is a treasure, and we simply adore him.


Calendar-wise, it seems like fall, but temperature-wise, save a few days here and there, it doesn’t quite feel like fall yet! But we’ve made soup a few times now, and I’m craving all the butternut squash-apple-cider-pumpkin spice flavors and aromas around the house! We’re slowly working in those fall flavors, 90-degree temps be damned! Here’s what we’ll be having this week:
