Currently…

An outtake from family photos last weekend!

Hello my friends!  It’s been a while!  We’ve been BUSY.  I haven’t done one of these in a while (see the last ones here, here, and here!), so to catch you up on what I’ve been up to, read what’s currently going on around here…

Appreciating- these cooler temperatures, hallelujah!!  I love layers- jeans, leggings, sweaters, jackets, you name it.  I love having a fire in the fireplace and snuggling up with blankets on the couch.  After a LONG, HOT summer, I am so thankful for fall weather.

Reading- Nothing currently, but I’m about to order Diana Gabaldon’s Outlander book series (see below what I’m watching :)).  I’m obsessed with the show, and have been told that I HAVE to read the books too.

Listening- to all the podcasts! If you are into politics but don’t want to listen to pundits screaming back and forth at each other, try Perino & Stirewalt I’ll Tell You What. It is conservative leaning, but very fair in my opinion.  I’ve been a big fan of Dana Perino’s for a long time, and Chris Stirewalt is so knowledgeable in politics and history.  They are both wonderful to listen to, and as informative as they are entertaining.  Definitely worth a listen if you don’t like watching the news (me), but still want to stay up-to-date.

Tasting- all the fall soups!!  Once cold weather hits, we eat soup at least twice a week.  I could seriously eat soup every day of my life, but can’t do hot soup in the hot summer!  But since the weather has finally dipped, it’s on.  I’ve made this 7-Can Taco Soup (or a similar version) several times, I also have this French Onion Soup, this Zuppa Toscana, and this Buffalo Chicken Chili on my list to make soon, among others!

Learning- that if it’s not good for your mental health, it’s not worth it.  Cut out what you need to cut out.  Recognize what drains you and eliminate it.  We only have enough bandwidth for positivity ’round here.

Embracing- the GYM. And if you know me well, this is not a small thing, haha.  I actually HATE having to go to the gym.  I hate getting ready, I hate the fact that I need to go, I hate gym clothes, I hate how I look in the mirrors, I hate it all.  But once I’m there, I love the people, I love my instructors, I love feeling strong and athletic again, and I LOVE how I feel when I leave.  So, I’m going to keep going.  And maybe some of the things I hate will turn into more of the things I love about going to the gym. Maybe.

Anticipating- a big family trip next week to DISNEY!!!  It’s my mom’s 60th birthday on the 25th, and for her birthday this year, she and my dad are taking the whole family to Disney World for the week of Thanksgiving!!  We’ve been planning this trip for like two years, and it’s finally here.  And after we had the trip of a lifetime last year, we are so super excited to be able to go back!  And THE KIDS HAVE NO IDEA. Our big surprise worked so well last year, and we’re surprising them again this time!!  I’ll make sure to share the big reveal again!

Working- on personal and professional goal planning for the rest of this year and into 2019.  One of the biggest ones for the rest of 2018?  Not stressing through the season and actually taking time to rest and enjoy it.  I can get so caught up in plans and what I need to do that I wish the time away.  This year I want to savor it.

Making- Disney outfits!!  See above 🙂  Brantley, Grayson, and Ben AND my niece Sally Kate and nephew William will ALLLLL be matching at Disney!  I cannot WAIT to get all this cuteness sewn up!!

Watching- Season Four of OUTLANDER!  Are you watching?  If not, START TODAY. Seriously, it is my new absolute favorite show.  So much so that there are several episodes I’ve watched and re-watched over and over and over.  I just can’t emphasize enough what a good show it is.  Other good shows we’ve been watching: Bosch, the last season of House of Cards, A Million Little Things (I started watching it after several people recommended it and now I LOVE it!), and Mr. Robot season 3.

Accepting- the fact that 5 hours of sleep isn’t going to cut it for me anymore!  I’m good with 7 hours, but any less and I struggle.  And when I say I struggle, I mean that I am a grumpy, unhappy, impatient person, unworthy of human interaction.  Not cool. And though I’m accepting it, it is really cutting into my beloved late-night solo tv watching, which I am not happy about!!  I’ll work on accepting that I’ll have to catch up on tv later, but I’m not quite there yet, ha.

Organizing- This cluttered house of mine.  I think it would be a full-time job to simply keep the house straight, not even clean!!  We accumulate so much stuff, and while I’m really good at that, I am not so good at getting rid of the old things.

Planning- a few BIG things for Magnolia Marketing Group in 2019!!  One exciting project is already on the books (more on that next year!), and I’m working on another one that has been on my mind for quite a while.  We heard a great quote at Business Boutique a week ago about doing something that scares you.  They said, “if you want to take the island, you have to burn the boat.” Meaning that once you “burn the boat,” you can’t go back and you have to go through with what you said and what you set out to do.  So, I’m just working on the courage to burn the boat.

Loving- My ladyboss glasses (not an ad)!!!  If you stare at a computer screen all day like I do, these are a must.  They block blue light from computer screens that can give you migraines, insomnia, and eye fatigue.  I had been getting headaches and eye fatigue at the end of practically everyday until I started wearing these!  Highly recommend!

Buying- experiences for the kids’ Christmas gifts instead of MORE toys.  These kids have more toys than they can ever possibly play with, so we’re going a different route this year.  They’ll get a few of the toys they want, but I think they’ll end up liking a few trips and fun passes, and special dates even better!

Finishing- a bunch of websites for clients!  Typically, when I’m blogging consistently, I do my writing at night after the kids have gone to bed.  But I’ve built four websites just in the last two months, and all my website work has been in the evenings.  So if you’ve noticed the shortage of blog posts recently, that’s why!  I need loooooong blocks of time when I’m working on websites- I don’t like to start and stop over and over like I typically have to do when working during the day.  I love creating websites for my clients and getting to the finished product is so rewarding.

Daring- to plan for faith instead of planning for failure.  To trust and believe instead of doubt.  To focus on the things I can control and let go of the things I can’t.  To talk to myself instead of listening to myself.  To stay in my lane, focus on my goals, and do it scared.
