Summer “Reading”

I love to read.  I love books, I love stories.  But am I going to make time to sit down with a book one-on-one and read when I have precisely 867,932 things on my to-do list that are far more essential and critical?  Unlikely.  BUT, I am ALL ABOUT listening to books!  While I’m driving, while I’m cooking, while I’m exercising, while I’m working, I am multi-tasking like a BOSS and listening to all kinds of podcasts and books!

This summer, after I finished some of my favorite podcasts, I started listening to more books through Audible.  And I ended up “reading” more books over the summer than I have in the past year combined!  Here are a few of my favorites that I would highly recommend if you want to start “reading” more!

I’ll be Gone in the Dark by Michelle McNamara
If you’re a true crime fan, this is a given.  And especially since the Golden State Killer was CAUGHT just a few months back, after this book was published and after Michelle McNamara’s untimely death.  It’s addictive and creepy and you want to just keep listening.

Sharp Objects By Gillian Flynn
When I saw that the Gillian Flynn book Sharp Objects was being made into an HBO limited series, I knew that I wanted to read the book first.  I was a big fan of Gone Girl (like everyone else in the world), and knew I’d like this one.  And I was absolutely right.  The book is awesome and so is the show, if you haven’t been watching (and if you have, WHOA the last episode!).  If you liked Gone Girl, you’ll love Sharp Objects.

Something in the Water by Catherine Steadman
I clearly have a type– I am a sucker for thrillers and suspense!  I listened to Something in the Water at the beach and it was really good.  As much true crime as I read, watch, and listen to, I’ve gotten pretty good at predicting twist endings.  And though I predicted this one, it was still good and worth the “read!”

The Couple Next Door by Shari Lapena
Another good thriller that I went through really quickly.  I could also see this being made into a good movie!  Very much in the same vein as Sharp Objects and Something in the Water.

Next on the reading list: All the Light We Cannot See (FINALLY) and Call Me by Your Name (I want to see that movie too!).  What else should I add?  Have you read any good books lately??
