Hello Friends! It has been a WEEK, y’all! The past two weeks have been packed full, non-stop, crazy-time busy. Throw in the daggum time change (which turned this house upside down) and another bout of strep, this crazy Georgia springtime weather, and we have hardly had a minute for sleep. Thankfully over the weekend, we were able to sleep in a bit, take it easy, rest, and refresh ourselves, and also prepare ourselves for another CRAZY BUSY two weeks ahead of us! I thought I’d catch you up today on what’s been going on around here.
-Definitely the biggest event of last week was that we SOLD OUR CONDO in Atlanta! If you’ve known me for quite a while (like 7+ years), you’ll know that Scott and I bought and moved into a 2 bedroom 2 bath condo in Atlanta just a few months before we got married in 2006. We moved to Loganville in 2011 (6 weeks before Gracie was born), and have been renting it out ever since. We had our share of plumbing and HOA issues (UGH), but had awesome renters until this past year. To make a very long story short, we were SO THANKFUL that after a stretch of A LOT of stress, we were able to start getting the condo ready to sell just after New Years. We had an INCREDIBLE realtor that assisted us through every step of the process, and thanks to her and the incredible bounce-back that Brookhaven and Dunwoody have had in the last few years, we were able to close on the sale with a decent profit. That in itself is unbelievable to us because it was just a few years back that we legitimately contemplated completely walking away from it. But we persisted, and the Lord ALWAYS provided for us, and we made it through. And here we are!! We made it! And it’s SOLD! And we’re done with it! As Scott so sweetly commented on Friday, it was a little bittersweet since it was our first home as a married couple. It was where we first met our Monkey beagle, it was where we first brought home Brantley, and where she took her first steps, it’s where we hosted our first Easter dinner, where we hosted family and friends, where we hosted many of our beloved wine club “meetings,” and so many firsts as we navigated those first few early years of our marriage. And I will always, always look back fondly on those years that we lived on Ashford Dunwoody Road! But I am also glad to have the burden of property management off of our hands, mentally, emotionally, and financially! On to bigger and better things! #onwardandupward
-Like I mentioned, we were stricken by strep again last week. Ben was out with strep the entire week of Valentine’s Day, and then Brantley was out this week. She was supposed to have a fun overnight field trip to the zoo Thursday and Friday that I was going to be chaperoning, but it was more important to get her well and get plenty of rest, so we stayed home. Thankfully she’s feeling better now. On Saturday morning, Gracie woke up with what I was afraid was going to be a tummy bug, but she seemed fine the rest of the day, and never had another incident. Hopefully, sickness has left our house for a while!
-I am 100% obsessed with Amazon Prime Now!! I have ordered a few times now, and it’s been a total lifesaver! I can place an order from a group of selected items on Amazon and get them delivered in about two hours. We ran out of toilet paper, paper plates, and dog food this week (same day), and I had NO TIME to get out to the store. I placed my order, and it was on my doorstep in two hours! Boom! Problem solved. Best thing is, there are TONS of things you can order to arrive within 2 hours (printer cartridges, bras, groceries, toys, diapers, curling irons, batteries, sunscreen, Windex, you name it!!), and it’s equal parts amazing and totally dangerous. But I am completely hooked.
-Brantley is playing softball again this spring since she loved it so much in the fall. But the other two are mixing up their springtime activities! Bennett is playing soccer at our church (he played soccer there two years ago), and his practices start tonight. Grayson wanted to try something a little different, so we’re signing her up for gymnastics! It makes scheduling very tricky, but it’s actually easier than having them all play baseball/softball in the fall! That calendar was insane and honestly, I was glad the kids wanted to do something different for the springtime. They are all super excited, and once the weather starts being consistently warm, I’ll be happy to be outside too!
-We had a HUGE, H-U-G-E week with my company, Magnolia Marketing Group last week! We have made some big changes and have big goals this year, and gained SIX NEW CLIENTS last week alone! Michele joined my team last June, and now we’re adding at least one, if not two, new account managers in the next few weeks. And not only are we gaining customers, but we established a closed Facebook group, Bloom with Magnolia Marketing, to share social media tips, best practices, and to serve as a marketing resource, while also offering encouragement, support, and inspiration as a collective community of creatives, entrepreneurs, and small business owners. We post original content on our blog each week, host a Facebook Live each Tuesday, and are hosting our first networking meeting next month! And the crazy thing is that we haven’t even scratched the surface. We have other big plans that we haven’t even gotten to yet, ha! Things are really growing, and though it’s been A LOT of work, it’s amazing, and I couldn’t be more proud.
-This past weekend, we implemented a screen-free weekend for the kids, and it was glorious. Over Christmas, we doubled the number of TVs in the house, and though we love TV and have no problem letting the kids have some screen time each day, it was getting out of hand! Ben would come home in the afternoons and barely say a word to us and just run straight to his room to start watching lego videos on YouTube (do your kids watch THE WEIRDEST things on YouTube? Yeah, us too). And the girls had been staying up WAY too late watching TV in their bedrooms and then morphing into the worst little non-morning people ever on weekday mornings before school. Plus, after too much TV, they would just be terribly irritable and pick fights and just be ugly to each other. So we’re working on limiting screen time, and having at least a screen-free weekend once a month, if not more often! The kids definitely still argued and fought a bit, as per normal, but far less, and without so much attitude! And even better, they weren’t perched right in front of the tv- they played Barbies, and Legos, and put puzzles together, and played outside, and played school, and were much easier to be around, and to manage! So, three cheers for less TV (for the kids at least, ha!).
I am super excited to be trying a new meal kit delivery service this week! I am actually going to be trying several different meal kit delivery services, and kind of rotating between them for the next few weeks. I still love planning out a few meals a week myself, but having a few nights already done for me makes weekly meal planning, and making dinner each night really easy. Plus, with several different services to choose from, the meal options are great! I got a coupon from Home Chef for $30 off my first box, and after looking over all the meal options, decided to try it out! So here’s what we will be eating this week:
Sunday: Roasted Asparagus Salad (shown above) with French Bread ((this was delicious, and we will FOR SURE be making this again!))
Monday: Italian-Style Shrimp and Peppers (Blue Apron Meal)
Tuesday: Teriyaki Charred Broccoli and Shitaki Mushrooms with Sesame Noodles (Home Chef Meal)
Wednesday: Mushroom and Chevre Tarts (Home Chef Meal)
Thursday: New England Cod Chowder (Home Chef Meal)
Friday: Sauteed Tilapia, Roasted Asparagus, and Baked Potatoes
I hope you all have a wonderful Monday and a GREAT start to your week!
