The Best Things About Summer 2017

Today is the last day of summer, and I’m taking it harder than I had expected.  In years past, I have been a little sad, but ready for the kids to go back to school.  This year, I’m just sad!  I think it’s partially the fact that this summer really was so short, also that Ben will be going to Pre-K at the elementary school with the girls, and partially the fact that I feel like the kids have really grown so much in the past year.  Brantley seems so much older all of a sudden, and so smart, and Grayson has gained so much independence and confidence over the summer, and did I mention my baby boy will be in school full time? It’s just a bit much for my mama heart to take right now.

But I’m trying to focus on the fun we had this summer, and not get too sad about the passing time.  Like I mentioned yesterday, I think we are entering that sweet spot of parenting.  Our kids are independent and able to start doing chores on their own, they can buckle their own seatbelts (a huge milestone, amirite mamas?) and clean their rooms, and feed the dogs.  But they also still love to play together, and they love to hang out as a family and do things with us.  They are funny and smart, loving and curious, kind and polite, respectful and friendly, and while they absolutely have their moments (days? weeks?), they make me so, so proud to be their mom.  And though there have been moments this summer that they have driven me completely bananas and I have prayed for a quiet house, I will miss them all day tomorrow and will count down the moments until pick up.

So today I’m sharing my favorite moments from this summer.  We made some sacrifices for a big trip we’re taking this fall, but we had a few other trips away, some fun excursions, lots of downtime and lazy days, and plenty of good family time together.  Here are some highlights from Summer 2017:
