Hi friends! I hope everyone is having a nice long weekend! Here are a few things I am saying hello to today…
Hello Day Off from School! I don’t know about you, but I was ready for this weekend just to have an extra morning to “sleep in (in quotations since it’s not like I actually get to sleep til 10 or 11 or something, but just that I don’t have to wake up to my alarm clock and snooze through it every five minutes for an hour, until I actually get up at 7).” We have had a pretty relaxed weekend so far, with lots of football and good food, a trip to Catch Air for the kiddies, and some catch-up housework and chores. And today, it will be just a little bit more of that. And that is just fine with me! As long as I get to stay in my pjs a bit longer and sip on my coffee unapologetically until noon (one?) it sounds like a good holiday to me.
Hello Snaggletoothed Grin!
It’s official. She’s growing up. My big girl lost her first (and then second!!) tooth last week. She had a “wiggly tooth” for about a month now, and she finally wiggled it loose last Tuesday night. After she lost her tooth, she actually did lose, as in misplace her tooth, haha! She, of course, was terrified the Tooth Fairy wouldn’t come since she had no tooth to put under her pillow, I told her to write the Tooth Fairy a note telling her that she misplaced it, and to check her mouth, that she actually did lose a tooth. 🙂 And lo and behold, the Tooth Fairy (despite being surprised at the loss of the wiggly tooth and being cash-broke) came!! She brought $2 for the tooth, and left a had-written note (on her own personalized stationary, no less), and a tooth pocket (that the Tooth Fairy sewed up pretty quickly since she was already at her sewing machine) to put other lost teeth into so they don’t get misplaced like her first one!
THEN, not 24 hours later, Brantley pulls out ANOTHER tooth!!! Her wiggly tooth’s not-quite-as-wiggly neighbor came out, so we got to put the cute little tooth pocket to use, and put the tooth in the pocket and under her pillow. And the Tooth Fairy came through again and found $2 to put in her tooth pocket in exchange for her tooth. 🙂 A big week for my big girl!!
Hello Consignment Selling…
I started going through all our accumulated baby clothes in the spring for the big consignment sale at the kids’ preschool, and made a pretty good chunk of money (that I put right back into new clothes for the kids), so I thought I’d try my hand at it again for the fall. When I go through all the sweet baby clothes, though, I have to be in such a no-holds-barred, non-sentimental mood to just get rid of clutter and old things. But, with baby clothes, when I see a onesie, I don’t just see a onesie, I see Brantley laying in her crib on her first day home from the hospital in her first hairbow. I see Gracie sitting in her highchair eating her first cup of pudding. I see Bennett laying next to Scott watching a football game. I see memories, and moments, and evidence that these days are going by faster and faster. I haven’t been able to let go of everything, and particularly things with meaning, or outfits worn to special events, or things that I made, I hold onto. But I don’t have a problem with that. I am letting go of the things I can, and keeping the things that are most important to me. Gosh, is consignment selling a metaphor for life???? Either way, I have lots of hanging and tagging to do before Wednesday, hahaha!
Oh, my very favorite time of year. We spent the weekend watching football and enjoying the cooler temps, grilling steaks and drinking red wine (I drink white wine in the summertime since it’s cold, and red wine isn’t nearly as appealing to me when it’s literally 100 degrees outside). Even though the days are still pretty warm, I am so done with shorts and sleeveless dresses and the likes, and have been wearing jeans and lightweight longsleeves as much as possible! I cannot wait for vests and sweaters and boots and layers, and have already started making lists of fall outfits from what I have in my closet. I know everyone does that, right?
What are you saying hello to today? Hopefully a lazy (or relaxing or fun or active?) day before the workweek starts back up. Happy Monday!
