Hello and TGIF! Four out of five posts this week isn’t too bad, and much better than in past weeks! I thought I would go back to my old Friday theme, and list four of my favorite things on this lovely Friday.
Favorite One-Serving Dessert: Chocolate Mug Cake
The mug cake trend is a powerful one round these parts. What to do when you’re craving something sweet, and chocolaty, but it’s 11:00 and yo’re out of candy and cookies and brownies, and everything else in the house? Or, you want something sweet after lunch but don’t want to make a tray of brownies (because you know you’ll just eat them all yourself)? MUG CAKE! I have made a few with a few different recipes on Pinterest, but I made a chocolate one the other night that was SO GOOD and SO CHOCOLATY and not dry at all, like some of the other ones that I have tried. It was almost as good as a full size homemade chocolate cake, just for one. I thought I’d share the recipe, and share the love, so if you ever have that same craving, you have a go-to recipe that will not let you down! And the best thing about mug cake recipes? They are very simple, and if you do any baking at all, you probably already have all the ingredients on hand!
The Best Chocolate Mug Cake:
1/4 c All Purpose Flour
2 Tablespoons cocoa powder
1/4 Teaspoon baking powder
2 Tablespoons sugar
1/8 Teaspoon salt
1/4 cup plus 1 Tablespoon milk
2 Tablespoons vegetable oil
1 Tablespoon of your choice: Fudge Sauce, Nutella, Peanut Butter, Cookie Butter (this is optional, but highly recommended!
Add first five ingredients into your mug. Whisk to combine well. Add milk and oil, whisk until batter is smooth, with no lumps. Plop the tablespoon of fudge (or nutella, or peanut butter, or cookie butter) right into the center of the mug, in the batter. Don’t mix, just leave it right there in the center. Microwave your mug for 70 seconds, and VOILA! Chocolate mug cake. Best culinary invention ever.
I like to add a dollop of ice cream to the top, but some whipped cream, chocolate syrup, or whatever else would also be delicious. Hope you enjoy!
Favorite Monthly Subscription: Dollar Shave Club
I don’t know about you, but I think razor prices are OUT OF THIS WORLD ridiculous. Like $14 for a decent razor, and then $12 for refills?? Umm…no. So because of this, I used to wait until my razor was pretty much rusting in the shower before I would change the blade. So I heard about Dollar Shave Club, and my poor legs and armpits have never been happier!! Pretty much, what you do is sign up for a membership, and you choose your razor. There are $1, $4, and $6 tiers, with the razor quality going up by price (I chose the $4 tier, and it’s a four-blade razor, like what I was buying in the store). The first month they ship you the razor and four cartridges (one for each week, or so they say) for that $4 a month, and then each month after, they just send you the four cartridges for just $4 a month. That’s it! You get a new set of cartridges in the mail every month (no more going 8 days without shaving because you keep forgetting to pick up a damn razor refills at the store), and they are really great quality razors. You can even select to receive shipments every other month or every three months if you don’t shave often (uh-hem, winter?), or if you just don’t go through them fast, like me (I get a shipment every other month, and still have tons of extras). I know it sounds kind of lame, like, they are just razors, what’s the big deal, but it is really so nice! They are equally as good for men’s faces, and are certainly worth a try. Your legs may thank you! Also, their commercials are really funny.
Favorite Recently Watched Movie- Kingsman: The Secret Service
I like spy movies and action movies just fine, but they are not usually my top picks for an at home movie night. But we watched Kingsman: The Secret Service the other night, and it was SO GOOD! Pretty much, there is this secret group of spies (think James Bond) called the Kingsmen, and they all have nicknames based on King Arthur and the Knights of the Round Table. So, one of them dies (don’t worry, it’s early on, no spoilers), and they have to have a competition to replace him. There are a couple of other plot lines, and Samuel L Jackson is trying to save the world in a very wicked way, etc., but that’s the basic story. If you are looking for something that will keep your interest just as much as it will keep your husband’s, then check it out!
Favorite Gift Idea: Custom Watercolor Paintings from Wildblumen Ink
I am always looking for new and unique gift ideas, and especially gifts that will be special or have sentimental value to the gift recipient. Doesn’t hurt when I am able to support a fellow small business owner, mom, and friend! My friend Megan owns Wildblumen Ink, and paints the most beautiful custom watercolor pictures. The best part is, she can do just about anything! She creates custom stationary (as shown above, Ben’s sweet notecards, and we also got stationary for all of our teachers last year), invitations, Christmas Cards, calling cards, family portraits, pet portraits, home portraits, and so much more. We commissioned a painting of my in-laws’ house for them for Christmas last year, and a painting of Moose, my parents beloved black lab, for my Dad’s birthday this year. Megan is so great about working with you and making sure each detail is just as you want it, and her turnaround time is very fast (especially for custom art work!).
So with that, I am off! I am picking up my girls today after a long week away, and I can’t wait to see them and hear ALLLLLLLL about Princess Dance Camp, and their week with Bammy and PaDaddy. I hope you have a wonderful weekend, and I’ll see you next week!
