Timeline of an Attempt to Take a Decent Easter Photo

I don’t know about you, but it takes me, on average, about 478 snapshots of my darling (but totally crazy) children before I actually get a decent one (maybe a *smidge* of an exaggeration, but it seriously feels that way).  Add an impatient husband, a week-long sugar high, and the promise of an impending tea party, and well, it’s pretty much impossible.  So here is exactly what happens, in order, as we tried to take an Easter photo yesterday…

Try to pick a certain place and pose where everyone is pretty comfortable, and mom looks as thin as possible.

2015-04-05 12.37.42

Duh, someone is going to fall down.

2015-04-05 12.38.24

Try to “encourage” (aka: bribe) at least one child to smile (candy!  Do you want more candy?  I’ll get you another Barbie.  Just SMILE!!!!!!!).

2015-04-05 12.38.30

Bribes are not working.  Resort to threats (you will go straight down for a nap as soon as we step foot inside if you don’t SMILE!  NO MORE CANDY!!!).  Even Brantley was a little scared.

2015-04-05 12.38.40

Threats backfire and child starts to cry. DANGER!  DANGER!  Go back to bribing.  Pull no stops.  (McDonalds.  Do you want to go to the Playplace tomorrow?  YES???  Okay, you just have to smile!!).

As you and the husband are desperately yelling, “Cheese!  Smile!  Look at Daddy!!”  Only one seems to be paying attention…

2015-04-05 12.38.50

Finally you get the other two to laugh, and the third one disappears from view…

Finally, your thighs start to cramp, your husband is getting cranky and hungry, and you throw your hands in the air and just settle for one where everyone at least looks happy and cheerful.  Eye contact and polite posture, not necessary.  Photo COMPLETE!  Now I have to follow through on all those bribes and promises, since you know those little brains are steel traps and they never forget things like that…

Anybody in the same boat as me?  Especially on a day like yesterday, when your family is all dressed up so nicely and you just ant photographic documentation that yes, you can all clean up pretty well from time to time?!  But, even though it’s not the perfectly posed photo I dream of, I do think that the photo pretty accurately captures our family right now, a little unpredictable, a lot of crazy, but happy and lots of fun.  And what could be better than that?

I hope you and your family had a wonderful Easter yesterday!  We had beautiful weather and really had a great day as the Easter Bunny visited, we went to church, we cooked and ate a huge meal afterwards, and then relaxd the rest of the day.  But I’ll go more into that in my Easter Recap tomorrow.  Until then, Happy Monday!
